Quality Statement:
Eotaxin/CCL11, produced by eosinophils, B-cells, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, macrophages, chondrocytes and other cells, is a member of the eotaxin family that is chemotactic agents for eosinophils and participate in innate immunity. It is induced by T helper-2 cytokines, like IL-13, IL-10 and IL-4, then transported from the blood to the brain through the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB).Eotaxin/CCL11 may exert physiological and pathological functions in the central nerve system, and may induce neuronal cytotoxicity effects by inducing the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in microglia cells. Plasma levels of CCL11 elevated in neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative disorders.
