Quality Statement:
FABP9 (fatty acid binding protein-9, T-FABP and PERF15) is a cytosolic 15kDa member of the fatty acid binding protein family, calycin superfamily of proteins. It is found in midpachytene spermatocytes and round spermatids and constitutes part of the perinuclear theca. Functionally, FABP9 is likely to link intracellular membranes, and may signal abnormal sperm formation during spermatogenesis. Human FABP9 is 132 amino acids (aa) in length and exhibits two layers of antiparallel beta -strands that envelope a hydrophobic pocket for lipid binding. Human FABP9 shares 71% aa identity with mouse FABP9.
