Quality Statement:
CD antigen CD98 is also known as 4F2 cell-surface antigen heavy chain (4F2hc), 4F2 heavy chain antigen, Solute carrier family 3 member 2 (SLC3A2), Lymphocyte activation antigen 4F2 large subunit, is a single-pass type I I membrane protein which belongs to the SLC3A transporter family. SLC3A2 constitutes the heavy chain part of HATs and is an essential structure for transporting amino acids, while the light chain part (i.e. LATs) contains catalytic groups that catalyze the transport of amino acids. HATs transport almost all essential amino acids, and different HATs have specific transport functions for different amino acids. Among them, SLC3A2/LAT1 is mainly responsible for transporting most neutral amino acids (such as leucine, isoleucine, methionine, etc.) and aromatic amino acids, while SLC3A2/LAT2 can mediate the transport of all neutral amino acids, and is also the transporter of thyroid hormone. SLC3A2 is widely expressed in a variety of rapidly proliferating cells, and is involved in regulating a variety of important cell activities, playing an important role in cell growth and embryonic development. SLC3A2 has dual functions of regulating amino acid transport and integrin downstream signaling pathways, and studies have found that the extracellular region and the cytoplasmic region of SLC3A2 are two relatively independent functional regions, in which the extracellular region is closely related to amino acid transport, while the cytoplasmic region and transmembrane region are necessary for the interaction with integrins.
